Rebecca Watkin Biography - Optimize Health Solutions

Rebecca Watkin is a New Zealand Registered Dietitian and Master of Science (Nutrition and Dietetics) graduate with a passion for gerontology nutrition and high quality health care through research and evidence-based practice.

Her role with Optimize Health Solutions focuses on research and critical appraisal of literature, the development of educational materials, analysis of audit data and blog writing.

Rebecca’s Master’s research focused on nutrition risk and dysphagia screening in older adults newly admitted to age related residential care in the Waitemata DHB region. This research contributed to a journal article recently accepted for publication in the Australasian Journal on Ageing (2017). Rebecca was selected to present her research at the 2017 Waitemata District Health Board Health Excellence Awards and previously at the 2016 Annual New Zealand Nutrition Society Conference.

Rebecca also has a special interest in sports and has been engaged in competitive karate for the past 17 years. She first qualified for the New Zealand National Team in 2006 and has continued to compete at an international level. This has offered many challenges and excitement; with last year being a highlight where she travelled to Austria to compete at the Senior World Karate Championships. Karate has allowed her to travel across multiple continents, integrate with an array of cultures and also help many international athletes with their nutritional requirements.

Rebecca has worked alongside OHS for over 2 years. She shares a common goal with Kaye Dennison in providing high quality care and has a unique energy and passion for improving the health of older adults.
